York is a city with a clear vision to deliver excellent services to individuals and families, our Local Area Coordination service will operate at the heart of the Health, Housing and Adult Social Care Directorate. Reporting to the Head of Commissioning (Early Intervention, Prevention and Community Development) we are looking to recruit 4 Local Area Coordinators. The successful candidates will be exceptional individuals who combine a passion for their local community, with a commitment to working alongside people in very practical ways - always looking for local solutions that will enhance their participation in, and contribution to, their local community.
Local Area Coordination is an innovative approach to supporting people with disabilities, mental health needs and older people (and their families/carers) to achieve their vision for a good life, to support people to be part of and contribute to their communities and to strengthen the capacity of communities to welcome and include people.
You will need experience of working alongside and supporting individuals from the above target group and an understanding of asset based community development. You will have an understanding and practical experience of advocacy and supporting people to plan for the future. You will be a creative thinker who is able to work in innovative ways and you must be committed to co-production.
Please note this is an 18 month fixed term contract.

Please note there will be a two-stage assessment for these positions. The first stage is a 1 hour community assessment exercise that requires no preparation, these will be held on 13th and 15th June. The second stage will be a panel interview on 18th or 21st June where you will be asked about your skills and experience.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Not suitable for job share as the Local Area Coordinators will be based within the community and working alongside individuals and their families to build relationships and source community solutions, reflecting person centred planning approaches. The roles are neighbourhood based and require a profile to be built up reflecting one coordinator per ward.
