Do you have the ambition and ability to play a key role in influencing the conservation and development of a city with unique historic importance?
The City of York Council have an exciting and unique opportunity to continue the job share delivery of this post, working closely with the current Conservation Architect.
You will join a team of professionals specialising in building conservation, archaeology, urban design, architecture, sustainable design, landscape design, ecology, countryside management, and protected trees.
You will be involved in advising on applications affecting listed buildings and conservation areas and on other design and conservation issues.
Key skills and responsibilities;
A positive, innovative and creative attitude is key. You will expertly negotiate for the preservation of the historic environment, alongside assessing the introduction of the best of contemporary design appropriate to the city.
You will need a sound working and practical knowledge of the historic development, construction and detailing of buildings, as well as all other areas of conservation practice, relevant legislation and current issues, together with excellent communication skills and a high level of initiative.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.
As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace
