City of York Council are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and reliable person to joint our busy Licensing Team.
The successful candidate will deal with event organisers and Advisory Group members (including the police, fire and ambulance services), coordinating events, related documentation, SAG meetings and inspections of events if required, making sure that events held in York are safe.
The successful candidate will assist in dealing with several different licensing functions from alcohol to gambling, taxis and entertainment. Dealing with customers on a daily basis to provide advice, process applications, issue licences and carry out some low-level enforcement work.
The successful candidate will also coordinate meetings on behalf of the Head of Community Safety.
The successful applicant should have knowledge of the work of a local authority. Excellent communication skills and experience of dealing with confrontation. Ability to take minutes at meetings, good computer literacy skills and experience of maintaining accurate and detailed records within computerised databases.
The ability to maintain accuracy, even when working under pressure is essential.

This role is located at the Council’s Eco Depot, and can be either a fixed officer based or hybrid (working from home on a rota basis) worker.
This role is suitable as a job sharing opportunity.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
