An exciting opportunity has arisen for two highly motivated lawyers to join our experienced legal team.
We are seeking one experienced qualified senior lawyer and a second lawyer who may be less experienced and who may be newly qualified or working towards qualification.
We would therefore welcome applications from practitioners of both categories for these career grade roles.
Depending on your level of experience and qualifications you will join the team at either grade 9, 10 or 11 within our structure. You will then be supported to progress through the grades with the aim that you ultimately become a Grade 11 senior lawyer. More information about the expected level of experience and qualifications for each of the grades are detailed in the job profiles attached.
As a lawyer in the litigation team you will predominantly provide advice and support to the Council’s Human Resources team.
You’ll be part of a team who provide legal advice on varied and complex employment, information governance and equality issues.
You will also be part of the wider litigation team and will occasionally provide support with straightforward civil and criminal matters.
As part of a wider legal service you will be at the forefront of change as we implement the Council Plan.
If you are an ambitious, innovative solictor, barrister or CILEX practitioner/lawyer or are working towards those qualifications, and if you have an interest in and ideally experience of employment, information and equality law - a role within our service area could be your next career move.
This role is available as a job sharing opportunity.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development.
