A vibrant, attractive city centre, offering fantastic culture and leisure opportunities makes York an ideal place to develop and progress your social work career. A very positive recent (Dec 16) Ofsted inspection also gives our social workers confidence in the work they do and the outcomes they achieve for children.
In York, we are very proud of the quality of our social work and the commitment and skill of our social workers. We work as a whole team, prioritising professional support, training and development; creating the conditions in which effective, relationship based child centred practice can flourish.
Strong leadership and a culture of political support has resulted in additional investment into Children's Social Care, enabling a significant restructure focussed on practice development and further strengthening service delivery. Internal promotions, expansion of services and the creation of new posts now provide us with exciting opportunities to recruit new staff.
We value the integration of research, theory and evidence based practice and are focused on embedding the use of evidence based tools and models of intervention. We strongly believe that the key to improving practice is to prioritise relationships at all levels, including that of parent-child; worker-supervisor; and manager-senior manager so that social work can be at its most effective; driving forward positive and sustained change within families and our organisation.
The York vision for social work is a simple one:
That our social workers have the approach, skills and resilience to ensure that vulnerable children in the city receive excellent social work services, delivered in a way which invests in and respects important relationships.
If you believe in our vision and you are skilled, motivated and committed to driving forward practice and would like to develop your career with us, we would like to hear from you!
In addition to competitive salaries, we offer a wider competitive package, including;
* Manageable caseloads
* Comprehensive and tailored induction package to all new employees
* Local Authority pension scheme, generous annual leave entitlements and a salary sacrifice scheme to assist with the purchase of travel, child care, and cars.
* Agile and flexible working including technological support, access to 'pool cars', easy access to your peers, supervisors and managers.
* Confidential free coaching support
* Access to a number of social opportunities within the workplace, including yoga and other social activities
City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
The postholder will have access to secure government sites or email. In order to use these systems, the Cabinet Office requires the HR Team to carry out Baseline Personnel Standard Security (BPSS) checks.
