Benefits

At the council we are keen to offer our employees the best reward package we can. So in addition to your basic pay there are many other benefits that make working for us a great option.

You’ll enjoy holidays starting at 24 days increasing to 29 days after 5 years service, plus paid public holidays. Holidays are reduced proportionally for staff who do not work full-time.

We have a generous occupational sick pay scheme, offering you up to 26 weeks at full pay, with a further 26 weeks at half pay, depending on how long you've been with us

Our ‘career average’ pension scheme gives you pension benefits based on your earnings over your career. You can find out more about the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) at www.lgps.org.uk .

These may differ slightly for different groups (i.e. Teachers, Soulbury)

With our Salary Sacrifice Schemes, you can pay for childcare voucher, bicycles, the latest technology, even cars, allowing you to spread the cost of purchases and maximise savings via tax and National Insurance contributions.

We can also offer help with your travel to work through our bus and train season ticket loan schemes.

Our CYC discount scheme offers great discounts at shops, bars and businesses both local and throughout the UK.

A great work-life balance

We all have our share of responsibilities and interests outside work. So we aim to offer a healthy work-life balance, through a flexible, supportive working environment and a range of policies in place including: Flexi time scheme, part time or term time hours, job share arrangements and family friendly working.

As a city, we recognise the significant contribution that carers make to our communities and are committed to providing a supportive environment as a Carer Friendly Employer.

Your Wellbeing

At the council you can be sure your wellbeing is of key importance. We offer an employee assistance scheme which provides free independent advice from qualified advisers and counsellors anytime of day or night, 365 days a year should you need it.

With the proceeds our successful staff lottery we have funded mindfulness sessions, Zumba classes, yoga and more to keep you fit and healthy in body and mind.

Through our CYC discounts schemes, there are also reduced membership fees for a number of gyms in the city. We also have a number of council-wide sports and social groups which you can join.

Pay

There’s a lot more to a career here than how much you take home every month. But we know that that’s very important. That’s why we are a Living Wage employer which offers attractive rates of pay.

Your pay rises incrementally, every year until you reach the top of the pay scale for the job you’re in.

Pay scales are reviewed annually as part of Local Government national pay settlements.

We’re committed to pay equality through job evaluation and equal pay reviews.
